2014 Montgomery County Teacher of the Year

The music department at Kipps Elementary School is based on the practices of Orff-Schulwerk - a child centered way to teach and learn music.  The goal of each class is to learn about music in a non-competitive atmosphere where one of the rewards is making music with others. To learn more about Orff-Schulwerk visit their website by clicking here.

Students sing, say, move, and play during each music lesson; each class has music twice a week for thirty minutes.  Students also explore, imitate, improvise, listen, and compose music throughout the year.

In addition to the in-school music curriculum, there are two extra curricular groups that are open to students in 4th and 5th grades.  Kindergarten and 3rd grade students have additional performances outside of the music classroom. Frist and second grades have share sessions where parents are invited to take part in a music class.

Monday - Three O'Clock Band - 5th only- 3:45-4:30
Tuesday Afternoon - 4th Grade Orff- 3:45-4:30
Wednesday During School - Three O'Clock Band- 3:00
