Meet the Teacher

Glen Chilcote
2014 Montgomery County Teacher of the Year
The music department at Kipps Elementary School is based on the practices of Orff-Schulwerk - a child centered way to teach and learn music. The goal of each class is to learn about music in a non-competitive atmosphere where one of the rewards is making music with others. To learn more about Orff-Schulwerk visit their website by clicking

Students sing, say, move, and play during each music lesson; each class has music twice a week for thirty minutes. Students also explore, imitate, improvise, listen, and compose music throughout the year.
In addition to the in-school music curriculum, there are five extra curricular groups that are open to students in 3rd-5th grades. All groups require a successful audition to participate.
Monday - Three O'Clock Band - 5th only- 3:30-4:30
Tuesday Morning - 3rd Grade Orff - 8:35-9:00 (doors open at 8:30)
